The 964 marked Porsche's departure from its "911" nomenclature although the models are still referred to as 911 by both Porsche and enthusiasts.
The 964 was touted as 87% 'new' compared to the previous 911 model.
Production ranged from 1989-1993.
The AWD Carrera 4 was introduced in the 964 line.
All cars had air-cooled boxer-6 power plants with HP ranging from 250 to 360 (1993 Turbo 3.6).
There were also about 80 Turbo S models made with 381 hp.

The RS America had a 3.6L 247 hp engine compared to the Euro-spec RS which had a 3.6L 260 hp which was subsequently replaced by a limited run 3.8L 300 hp power plant.
The RS America ran 0-60 mph in 5.4 secs with a top speed of 162 mph.
