The 911 began its journey as the 901 in 1963 at the Frankfurt auto show but its model was changed to the reknowned 911 to avoid a potential conflict with Peugeot who had claimed all model designations with a "0" in the middle. The 911 has always had a 6-cylinder Boxer rear-engine design In 1989 Porsche began designating the 911 line with new assignments such as the 964. However, both enthusiasts and Porsche still refer to the models as 911. As there are literally dozens of brochures and at least 100 variants of the 911 over this period, I have tried to include some 'representative' brochures for the 911 reign (1964-1989).
